Skydiving - The Great Airborne Skydiving Adventure!
By Dorothy Santoro

When I was 18, my dad was finishing up his hours to get his private pilots license. At the time, being 18 and feeling like nothing could ever happen to me, I felt I would have a lot of fun if I took up the sport of skydiving, a real adrenaline rush.

Back then the thought of jumping out of a plane at anywhere from 10,000-18,000 feet , and flying through the air at 120-180 mph, seemed like a perfectly reasonable activity. Keep in mind, I was only 18, and I have no doubt that my parents had no intention of allowing me to do that, they just had not told me no yet.

Indoor Skydiving - Freefall Experience

Headline: Indoor skydiving on the increase! While the presentation of this fact is a bit extreme, the statement is true nonetheless. Hundreds, even thousands, who want to experience a skydive have taken to the indoor vertical wind tunnels being constructed across the country. Many get their thrills close to the ground and never jump from an airplane with a parachute pack on their back.

Skydiving - Tips For the Newbie Jumper

Exhilarating. The ultimate rush. Thrill of a lifetime. For those who have jumped out of an airplane and plummeted toward earth in a skydiving freefall, words seem to be inadequate to describe the experience.

You just have to try it they say. And, who has not thought of doing just that? You're never too old. Former President George H.W. Bush did it to celebrate his 75th birthday, then again on his 80th.

There are a few things to consider before taking that first big step, to make sure that the experience is rewarding and that you get everything out of it that you can.

Parachute Games Offer Thrills For Experienced Skydivers
By Andrew Caxton

Skydiving may not be traditional Olympic sport, but participants interested in parachute games can find contests and competitions held annually in various parts of the world. The International World Games Association, which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee, sponsors skydiving competitions.

The 2005 World Games, which were held in Duisburg, Germany, included many parachuting events. Participants competed in canopy piloting, formation skydiving, freeflying, freestyle stunts, and accuracy landing events. Just as in the traditional Olympic games, gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded to the individuals or teams placing first, second, and third in these skydiving games. Skydiving has also been included in the x-games, which hosts competitions for “extreme sports.”

Riding The High Roads
By Patt Carpenter

Imagine soaring down a road in Dallas, Houston or elsewhere in Texas at 70+ mph while lying on your back, just inches from the asphalt. That’s the sport of street luge, an extreme gravity-powered activity that involves riding a street luge board, or sled, down a paved road or prepared course. Street luge is also known as land luge or road luge and, like skateboarding, street luge takes balance and lightening quick reactions. The only difference between street luge and the winter Olympic sport is the lack of snow and ice. Street luge was created in Southern California when downhill skateboarders found they could reach faster speeds by lying down on their skateboards. But, like regular luge, the concrete version picks its winners based on top speed.

Extreme Skydiving Adventures Will Not Disappoint
By Steven Milstone

Skydiving! If the very word gives you a shiver of dread, you are hardly alone. Or perhaps you're one of those people who lives for thrills like these. Either way, an extreme skydiving adventure might be just the activity you've been looking for. People like to throw around the phrase "pushing your boundaries", but extreme skydiving actually delivers on this promise. Truly, no sport can give the same kind of adrenaline rush as jumping out of a plane into free fall at ten, thirteen, even as high as eighteen thousand feet above ground!

Now, not everyone is ready to jump, as it were, straight into this kind of extreme sport, save for the very most hardened thrill seekers among us. It takes more than a little bit of mental preparation (or a truly exceptional disposition) to be ready to jump out of a plane and plummet to Earth at speeds exceeding a hundred miles an hour. For instance, consider how far one falls in extreme skydiving. Say you jump out of the plane at thirteen thousand feet; typically one opens the parachute at about twenty five hundred feet and then gently drifts the rest of the way. This means there is a free fall of nearly two miles!

Kite Skiing - Skis Plus A Kite Harness And Foil Kite!
By Tim Parish

Kite skiing is a new and exciting winter sport that's been popular for some years in Europe. It's also getting a lot more popular in the U.S. In fact, any country these days with a decent amount of snow has a few kite skiers skimming around somewhere!

The Americans thought of it first, with a few pioneers in the 80's experimenting on the frozen lakes of the U.S. East Coast and Midwest. Parafoil kites were used then, and they remain the ideal type of kite for this sport. However, Europe was where kite skiing really took hold and first became a recognized sport. Many of the people who tried it were surfers who already had the needed kite skills. These days there are well-established competition circuits. At the highest level of competition, riders from Europe and the US come together to compete.

The History of Skydiving
By Matthew Anderson

Skydiving has an interesting history that can take up a whole volume, but this article will attempt to give a brief synopsis of that history. Most people consider skydiving a product of the twentieth century, but its history actually goes further back than that. The Chinese attempted parachuting in the 10th century, a thousand years before we did. Of course, there were no airplanes, so the Chinese did what we would today call base diving; that is, they jumped off outcroppings or other formations that would allow them to float from a height to the ground. And then, of course, we have the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci, who illustrated a pyramid shaped parachute on a wood frame.

Snow Kite Choices - From Power Kite To Depowerable Foil

Just about any decent sized kite can be used to snow kite. We all know there isn't much friction out there on the snow or ice, particularly if you're wearing skis or skates! So in theory, just about anything with a bit of pull that's hooked up to a kite harness will get you moving. However, from a practical point of view, some kites are much more suited than others.

In fact, some traction kites are made specifically for powering across snow and ice. It's a popular activity too! Just search on YouTube and it's not hard to find a good snowkite video where someone's gliding swiftly across a powdery white landscape.

The Skydiver Lifesaver, Automatic Parachute Release
By David Rumsey

In skydiving, errors can often be fatal so there is not too much room for them. Here are a few examples of things that may come between a skydiver and his ability to deploy the parachute in safe conditions:

* When exiting the plane or during the free fall the skydiver looses consciousness.
* The skydiver gets distracted and looses track of altitude.
* Unexpected events happen, like another skydiver or a plane gets to close and damages the equipment, or destabilizes the skydiver.

A group of women was also invited to demonstrate their talent in freestyle motocross and both vertical (or "vert") and street skateboarding. Although the women showed they were capable of creating excitement in the audience with their feats, the money available to female competitors is still an issue in championship events.

Why You Need to Try an Extreme Sport

I used to be more or less a slug. I only exercised to prevent weight gain, and nothing was more boring than a few miles on the treadmill. About five years ago I met my current girlfriend, and her love of mountain biking was as infectious as her laugh. I wound up going one step further to extreme mountain biking and now I go almost every weekend. I have been so much happier since taking up this great sport.

Understanding how the kite behaves differently in light wind is a step in the right direction. The biggest factor is apparent wind, one must understand what apparent wind is and how to make it work.

Big Air Equals Big Thrills With This New Extreme Water Sport
By J Hoxtell

Kiteboarding or kitesurfing, if you don't already know, is like snowboarding on water. This, behind a boat, is called wakeboarding. OK, now forget the boat and add a giant kite for the power source. The kite is controlled or steered using a control bar in the hands of the rider. The kite can be flown is specific patterns to generate greater power, or can be used to jump or fly through the air. We are not talking about little hops either; you can really get up and float for some serious air time. The power is directed to a harness by "hooking in"; this takes the load off the arms which helps reduce fatigue. Kiteboarding is the fastest growing water sport in the world, and for good reasons.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Kites
By Eddie Tobey

A kite is a lightweight, man-made object specifically designed to fly in the wind. The lift that makes this light object fly is created when the kite deflects the wind downwards; apart from that, the deflection produces a horizontal drag in the direction of the wind. The kite is generally held with just one line. Kites that are held with more than one line are maneuvered by using the different lines with different degrees of strength.

However, learning on a kite which probably depowers 25-35% means that if you make a mistake on the control bar, you get to suffer the consequences. With the newer style kites, push the bar away and the kite won’t throw you. Does this make learning easier? You better believe it! However.....
